Balancing Blood Sugar
Balancing blood sugar is essential to feeling well. I’m not even talking about how it can help you lose weight and stay off the dangerous path of diabetes… If you’re looking for a way to have stable energy all day long, it all starts with balancing blood sugar.
THE BASICS OF BALANCING BLOOD SUGAR: LET’S RIDE THE ROLLERCOASTER
Think of your body’s energy supply as the car on a rollercoaster. When you eat, it’s like you’re climbing up the big hill, giving your body what it needs to tackle daily tasks. The top of the hill is when you’re pleasantly full, nourished with real foods in a good balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
Your body takes the insulin from what you eat and converts it into energy.
As your body processes the food and uses the energy, you’re now riding the downslope of the rollercoaster.
As you get to the bottom, your body starts to make a little cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone, and it’s your body’s way of getting your attention to tell you it needs more fuel.
To satisfy these feelings for more fuel, you eat. And the climb on the rollercoaster begins again.
The goal, then, is to flatten out the peaks and valleys of the roller coaster. That way, your car can ride along the tracks smoothly, giving you even energy all throughout your day.
Easy, right?!
It should be. But all too often, we don’t set our rollercoaster up on the easiest path possible.
Let’s start again at the beginning
If on the uphill climb you consume foods and drinks that are high in sugar and/or low in fiber and protein, and you’ll alter the path of your rollercoaster. Your energy will be high, but only for a short time. And when you crash, you’ll crash hard. Basically, you’ll have a nice little ride at the top, but make downhill ride will feel steeper and deeper.
Then once you get to the bottom, there’s another way to go off the rails. If you ignore the “it’s-time-to-eat” signal, you’ll feel altered not just in your energy level but also in your ability to concentrate and your mood.
Hangry, anyone?!
So if you’re struggling with fluctuating energy levels, mood swings, or even not ever getting a hunger signal, think about your rollercoaster track. Balancing blood sugar is all about keeping your car on a slightly wavy track.
Gone are the high highs and the low lows!
Balanced Blood Sugar Feels Better!
When you’re riding along a gently rolling track, your body is better able to function efficiently. This is especially important for women in perimenopause who are experiencing naturally-shifting hormone levels. Many of the common questions about perimenopause and reported symptoms all relate back to balancing blood sugar levels within a normal, wavy track range. Balancing blood sugar is key to surviving and thriving in perimenopause.
If you’re experiencing mood swings, inflammation, weight gain, fluctuating energy levels, and memory fog, think about your rollercoaster track. Once you get off the wild rollercoaster, you feel like yourself again.
